Boater examinations
If you are active or employed in the shipping industry, you are obliged to periodically undergo medical examinations. We examine whether you, as a crew member, meet the statutory inspection requirements. The boater examination focuses on your medical fitness (health) and on the safety of your colleagues, other crew members, and other waterway users. At MediWerk you canschedule and carry out your boater examination quickly and without waiting times. Our certified medical doctors carry out the marine medical examination in accordance with the inspection guidelines of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) and you will receive your ‘marine medical certificate’ immediately after the examination. A medical shipping certificate is valid for two (2) years.

What to bring for the boater examination
- A valid ID
- Your glasses and/or contact lenses
- A clean container of urine
- Medication (if you are taking any) in original packaging
- Your Seaman’s Book (if in possession)

Content of the boater examination
Duration: 20 minutes
The examination consists of:
- Questionnaire
- Biometric testing: measuring height, weight, heart rate and blood pressure
- Vision Test (far and near, and a colour-blindness test)
- Audiometry
- Physical examination
- Urine sample test
- On medical grounds: blood test
