Maritime medical examination
If you are active or working in the shipping industry, you are required to periodically undergo a maritime medical examination. We examine whether you, as a crew member, meet the inspection requirements of maritime shipping. The maritime medical examination focuses on your medical fitness (health) and on the safety of your colleagues, other crew members and other waterway users. Our certified medical doctors perform the seafarers’ examination in accordance with the inspection guidelines of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) and you will receive your ‘maritime medical certificate’ immediately after the examination. A maritime medical certificate is valid for two (2) years.

What to bring for the maritime medical examination
- A valid ID
- Your glasses and/or contact lenses
- A clean container of urine
- Medication (possibly) in original packaging
- Your service booklet (if in possession)

Content of the marine examination
Duration: 20 minutes
The examination consists of:
- Questionnaire
- Biometric testing: measuring height, weight, heart rate and blood pressure
- Eye examination (far and near, and a colour-blindness test)
- Hearing test
- Physical examination
- Urinalysis
- On medical grounds: blood test
